Description
The Russian Ballet Icons Galas have been organised by Ensemble Productions annually for the last nine years and next year will celebrate its 10th anniversary. Every gala is a multimedia experience which combines performances by living masters who are celebrating the life and art of the greatest historical performers of the Russian ballet stage and the importance of the Russian ballet school generally. ‘Flight performed by the soul’ is how Alexander Pushkin described Russian ballet, whilst speaking of contemporary ballerina Evdokia Istomina in Eugene Onegin. It was the Russian ballet that was destined to revive the art worldwide by giving the world mesmerising dancers such as Anna Pavlova, Mikhail Fokin, Leonid Myasin, Bronislawa Nijinskaya, Vazlav Nijinsky, George Balanchine and Serge Lifar. The sensational Ballets Russes of Sergey Diaghilev remain until today one of the most significant achievements in the ballet history.
